Chrome OS Flex - Refresh your old laptop - first attempt

Install the Chromebook Recovery Utility on your Google Chrome Browser
To run your Chromebook Recovery Utility successfully, you need to use administrator right to login your machine, runas administrator on your Google Chrome browser (Right click "Runas administrator" on the Google Chrome icon on your desktop shortcut)
Follow the installation guide to create the bootable usb thumb drive.

Select "Google Chrome OS Flex"

Note: Already a 8GB USB flash drive able to pass the checking, but you will failed to complete the creation. You need a 16GB USB flash drive

Start the installation:

The first screen when you boot into your usb thumb drive

Click Get Started

Click "Install CloudReady 2.0"

Install CloudReady 2.0

Install (It will erase your hard drive)

It start to install

It will count down to shutdown your machine after the installation completed.

Power on your machine and you will see the welcome screen again

Connect to your wifi

After that my machine keep reboot……

I test to install it on IBM x61, Lenovo x200. Both of them cannot start the installation process.

After that I able to install it on Acer V5-571G but it keep auto reboot after the installation completion.

Remark: Chrome OS Flex is currently released for early access testing and is not suitable for production use. CloudReady is available for immediate stable deployment. Google will automatically update CloudReady devices to Chrome OS Flex, when Chrome OS Flex is stable.

Citrix EPA fails after Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge update to v98

There are three workaround options:

Use IE to open the web portal

On Windows 10 – press Win + R to start the "Run", then enter "iexplore"

Use Firefox to open the web portal

What need to be aware if your Lenovo X240 install Windows 10 10240 (1507) and upgrade to the latest version?

Run Windows Update after the installation immediately
Do not install Lenovo System Update to apply any driver until your machine running on 20H2 or later version
Do not run the Windows media creation tool or run the Windows 10 upgrade assistant tool to upgrade your machine from Windows 10 10240 to 21H2 directly
After you using the Windows Update to upgrade your machine to 20H2, then you can install driver, software and also using the upgrade assistant tool to upgrade to 21H2
Block your machine to upgrade to Windows 11 by changing the target version to 21H2

How to sign-in with Microsoft account without create Windows Hello PIN?

By Disable Windows Hello via Registry

Press Windows key and R key together to open Run dialog.
Type regedit in the box and click OK to continue.
Navigate to the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Settings\AllowSignInOptions.
In the right panel, double-click on the DWORD entry named value and set it to 0.

When all steps are finished, reboot your computer and check whether the Windows Hello is disabled.

If you are using Windows 10 Pro, you need to use local GPO:

Run gpedit.msc.
Select Local Computer Policy / Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Hello for Business
Set the "Use Windows Hello for Business" policy to Disabled, and click "Apply"

Windows 10 Insider on Dev Channel but failed to upgrade to Windows 11

My machine is X220 which is not compatible to upgrade to Windows 11, since I cannot leave the Insider Dev Channel without reinstall the machine without data loss….So, I decided to force my machine to upgrade to Windows 11 GA to keep my data and also installed program.

Since my machine did not have TPM, I need to upgrade Windows 11 without TPM

Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup" and press Enter. Add a DWORD value, name it "AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU," and set it to 1.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > Setup and create the key LabConfig.

Add a DOWRD value called "BypassTPMCheck" and set it to 1. Then add another one called "BypassCPUCheck" and set that to 1 as well.

Then create a ISO with the Media Creation Tool, extract all file into a folder.

Then delete the appraiserres.dll and also mount a Windows 10 ISO to copy the aappraiserres.dll into the Windows 11 installation source folder

launch setup, and perform an in-place upgrade on your system.

After the upgrade completed, you will receive a message you cannot enter the Windows insider program on this machine for Windows 11.
