How to install Intel 82579LM onboard NIC (DELL Optiplex 790) driver to VMWare ESXi 4.1?
1. Go to download this two files http://www.vm-help.com/forum/download/file.php?id=614 and http://www.vm-help.com/forum/download/file.php?id=613
2. Use 7zip to unzip it. You will got a oem.tgz
3. Use the WinSCP to connect the ESXi (Use SCP protocol)
4. Go to the folder “bootbank”
5. Rename the file “oem.tgz” to “oem_old.tgz” and copy the file “oem.tgz” which is you just download and unzipped to the folder “/bootbank”.
6. Reboot the ESXi
7. The driver should be installed.

hi Billy
ReplyDeleteon step 3, since i haven't installed the ESXi, how can i connect it?
can we chat on gmail? fenrei@gmail.com
thanks.
Hi Jet,
ReplyDeleteIf you did not install the ESXi, you cannot use this method to install the Intel LAN card driver to the ESXi. I suggest you find a ESXi supported LAN card to install to the DELL Optiplex 790 for the ESXi installation. Or use the ESXi 4.0 (I try the 4.1, but did not work, it seems that 4.1 have been change the driver loading method) to add the driver to the ESXi before install. (Reference: http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/customize_oem_tgz.php). You can upgrade the 4.0 to 4.1 after you install the ESXi successfully.
Ur post was so helpful. Thanks for posting this.
