Setup
Not sure because I running this tools on Windows 10 insider preview, the auto discovery did not work. I add the storage to the manager manually (by entering the IP address)
Since I am using the old drive, I need to clean those disk before I able to use it on the NAS
Cleaning a Hard Disk Using Windows diskpart
Using diskpart blanks the disk without putting down a write signature or partition table. This avoids potential hard drive failures resulting from disk format issues. For example, if a hard disk with a capacity larger than 2TB is formatted under Windows XP, it could fail after installation in a NAS device due to the msdos partition table.
- Mount the hard disk in a drive carrier and connect it to a SATA connector on a Windows-based computer.
- Open a command prompt and type diskpart.
- Type list disk to verify that the disk is recognized.
NOTE: diskpart lists hard disks by number where "0" is the OS disk. You can use Windows Disk Management to verify the number of the disk you want to clean.
- Type select disk #, where # identifies the disk you want to clean. For example, if you are cleaning disk 1, type select disk 1.
CAUTION! Cleaning a hard disk with diskpart will completely destroy all data on the disk. Do NOT proceed unless you are certain you have selected the correct disk!
- Type clean.
Once the disk is cleaned, it is ready to install in your ix or px network storage device.
