Issues when you try to display a large TIFF file that contains multiple pages by using Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 7

Verify the bug
1.    Open the “Windows Task Manager” and also open the problematic files (Large TIFF file with multiple pages), navigate to different page of the file until saw the error screen like the following: (Error message: Windows Photo Viewer can’t open this picture because the file appears to be damaged, corrupted, or  is too large.)

When you hit this bug, you will found that the memory usage become very high.

2. Close the problematic file, you will found the memory back to normal.

In this example, the file is 23.2 MB with 58 pages.

Solution

1. Download the hotfix https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2635500

2. Install Windows6.1-KB2635500-x86.msu for Windows 7 32bits or Windows6.1-KB2635500-x64.msu for Windows 7 64bits

3. Reboot the machine

4. Open the problematic files, you will find the issue being resolve, memory usage become normal like the following and also no error of the file in the Windows Photo Viewer
