Windows Desktop Search (WDS) 4.0 conflict with Outlook Express
"To free up disc space OE can compact messages. This may take up to a few minutes. -OK/Cancel". This has become very invasive and, even after press OK (and losing use of the commuter for several minutes), can pop up again within seconds/minutes and re-pop up within seconds of being canceled.
Windows Desktop Search (WDS) 4.0 (Windows Search) is causing this problem when it constantly searches OE
The message even happens when you don't use OE (Outlook Express). Uncheck the box in WDS that says to search OE.
Windows Desktop Search: Set Desktop Search Options
Or you can uninstall the outlook express completely if you did not use it.
After changing Windows Search Options, you may still have to reset the OE count. Even though Windows Search is no longer looking at OE, OE has already opened the 100 times to give you this message.
Try this:
Edit the registry manually to reset the counter manually:
1. Close Outlook Express and all message windows.
2. Click Start, click Run and type without quotes "regedit".
3. Navigate to this key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{GUID}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0
where GUID is the long number used for your Identity.
4. In the right-hand pane, double-click "Compact Check Count", then change the value to zero.
5. Close regedit and restart your computer.
