Upgrade Windows Server 2016 TP3 to TP4 by using PowerShell command

Please make a full backup of the server and also data before upgrade

1. Copy the TP4 ISO file to USB thumb drive and connect the USB thumb drive to server.

2. Enter PowerShell and use the following command to mount the disk image and run the setup:

3. Select “Download and install update”

4. Select the “Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 4”

5.Select “Nothing”

The option “Keep personal files and apps” seems to be not work. It hang up when it start to upgrade the server.

6. Click “Install” to start the upgrade

7. Just wait for the server upgrade complete

8. Upgrade complete, the OS version become 10.0.10586

Enable ping on Windows Server 2016 TP4

To enable ping on Windows Server 2016 TP4, please follow the following PowerShell command

> Import-Module NetSecurity

> Set-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName “File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request – ICMPv4-In)” -enabled True

>  New-NetFirewallRule -Name Allow_Ping -DisplayName “Allow Ping”  -Description “Packet Internet Groper ICMPv4” -Protocol ICMPv4 -IcmpType 8 -Enabled True -Profile Any -Action Allow

Windows Server 2016 – Preview 2

1. There are two options for Windows Server installation

- Windows Server Technical Preview 2

- Windows Server Technical Preview 2 (with local admin tools)

The first screen you seen after the installation (Install option is with local admin tools)

The “Server Manager” and “command prompt” will pop update (No desktop and start screen menu/screen)

Configuration network adapater by using Server manager and the following configuration meun (the blue one)

Run the Windows Update, you will receive some Windows update ready for you.
