EMET 5.51 upgrade to 5.52 issue on Windows 8.1

If you upgrade your EMET 5.51 to 5.52 by using a normal user account (You enter your admin credential when the UAC prompt up), you will able to upgrade successfully but the EMET will not start to protect those application opt-in to being protect

 

Solution:

You will need to change "Quick Profile" back to "normal security setting", reboot your machine, then change it to "maximum security setting" and then reboot your machine again. (You may receive some errors during change the security setting, please safely to ignore it)

After that, your EMET will running normally.

 

You can check the running processes to see any process running EMET to protect like the following:

Chrome 53 (53.0.2785.89 m (64-bit)) on Windows 8.1 have compatibility issue with Microsoft EMET 5.5 and 5.51

After you upgrade your Google Chrome Browser to version 53, when you open your browser, you will receive the following error:

EMET_5.5

 

Even you upgrade to the latest version 5.51, you still receive the same error:

EMET_5.51

 

The workaround solution:

Remove the EAF+ protection for Google Chrome under EMET

Running a Firefox 46.0.1 (32 bits) with EMET 5.5 enabled on Windows 8.1 (64 bits) cause very high CPU usage

When enable the EMET protection on Firefox, it cause the firefox very slow and the CPU used by firefox very high.

The environment: Windows 8.1 (64 bits), Firefox 46.0.1 (32 bits) and EMET 5.5.5871.31892

Workaround solution: Upgrade the Firefox 46.0.1 to 64 bits edition
